What makes someone seek out therapy?

  • Feeling disconnected from loved ones, friends, and community
  • Wondering why life follows certains patterns, even when you try to break them
  • Feeling heavy with guilt that even though your life is pretty good, you still feel unhappy
  • Anxiety, depression, shame, anger, and powerlessness
  • Exploring identity: immigrant and diaspora, queer, gender, and/or going through a coming out process
  • Wanting to communicate more directly and be able to advocate for yourself
  • Wishing that others could see the real you but feeling unsafe
  • Hoping to resolve sex, sexuality, infertility, and intimacy issues
  • Knowing that things weren’t quite right in your past but not knowing how to express it
  • Experiencing the harsh toll of microaggressions because of identity and/or what you do
  • Wanting to feel better!

In my practice, I create a psychotherapeutic space where you can experience strong emotions in the presence of a compassionate and well-trained advocate. People come to therapy during times of relative calm, transition or crisis, or when grief, illness or loss is experienced. Together, we explore your current life and your goals for the future, while integrating and making sense of your history. A strong therapeutic professional will support you to deeply examine your motivations and reactions, building a foundation of independence that you can take into the world.

Therapy is something you can do for yourself that actually changes your life. Clients often find that once they’re able to know themselves, they feel increased compassion and empathy for others as well. It’s not selfish to think about yourself and your place in the world, rather it is a way in to improved relationships.
